Criminal Background Reports are especially important when you have someone in your home and caring for your most valuable asset (your children). You cannot spend too much time or money to ensure that you have done everything possible to keep your children safe. And, at $24.95 for a Basic Background Check including a National Criminal Search, there's just no excuse not to run one on every applicant. By doing so you have done your best available to protect your family and loved ones. The best defense is to show that you used the "Best Available Means" to check the applicant's background prior to approving the prospective sitter, nanny or day care provider's application.

Screening your sitter, nanny or day care provider carefully includes running a Criminal Background Report during the application approval process. When you own a company, remember that once you adopt any policy as a part of your approval process, you must do the same things, run the same checks etc. on EVERY applicant. For the following 5 states, (AL, CA, NM, ND, SD) you will need to order a Statewide Criminal Search (24 to 48 hr turnaround) for only $19.95. We recommend that you also run a Basic Background Check including a National Criminal Search because many people are transient and may have criminal records in other states. The following states require additional searches in order to do your 'best available' to check all the criminal records in the US.

The State of South Dakota requires a Statewide Search as this state is not included in the National Criminal Search.

The States of California, New Mexico, North Dakota, and South Dakota may contain some records in the Basic Background Check including the National Criminal Search but more detailed records are available in the Statewide Criminal Search.

The State of California does not have all their records in the National Criminal Search or Statewide Criminal Search. Many county records are available in the County Criminal Search only. We recommend that you do all 3 criminal searches for California as per below:

National Criminal Search: To check for criminal records for other states in the US

Statewide Criminal Search: To check for criminal records with details which are only available in the Statewide Criminal Search.

County Criminal Search: To check for criminal records that are not included in the National Criminal Search or Statewide Criminal Search and are only available by 'Specific County'. We recommend that you do a County Criminal Search for the county where they currently reside

The following 8 states DO NOT report their criminal records nationally or by state.

For these states we recommend that you do a National Criminal Search for records in other states that are reported and in the county(s) they do\have resided in this particular state or any of the states on this list.

National Criminal Search: To check for criminal records for other states in the US

Statewide Criminal Search: To check for criminal records with details which are only available in the Statewide Criminal Search.

County Criminal Search: To check for criminal records that are not included in the National Criminal Search or Statewide Criminal Search and are only available by 'Specific County'. We recommend that you do a County Criminal Search for the county where they currently reside

The Basic Background Search includes Sex and Violent Offenders for all 50 states.

The Basic Background Search includes a verification of the SSN, state and year of issuance, and AKA or Alias names used. You may wish to consider running background checks on these names too since most searches are specific to the name. This search allows you to verify current and previous addresses; spot movement patterns and includes some phone numbers.
